Celebration of the World Bee Day in New Delhi
Ambassador Jožef Drofenik along with Embassy staff hosted (23 May 2019) a gathering of representatives of some Indian schools, Indian government representatives and a representative of Indian honey producing company. The gathering marked the second observance of the World Bee Day. 20 May was proclaimed World Bee Day by the United Nations on the initiative of Slovenia in December 2017. Ambassador in his address reminded the audience of the importance of bees and other pollinators for having food in our homes, for harvesting honey and as such offering additional income to farmers and marginal groups, and for preserving biodiversity.
The possibilities for future cooperation in promoting public awareness of the significance of bees among youth were discussed with Delhi Public School Faridabad, Amity School, Modern School in Vasant Vihar, Tagore International School in Vasant Vihar and St. Marks School. In addition, Ambassador discussed possible joint activities with Horticulture Commissioner from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Affairs of India dr. Murthy and Director General of India Council for Cultural Relations, Mr. Akhilesh Mishra.
